NFT's

NFT's

Season 4, Episode 3 : NFT’s

In this episode, Peter and Tom attempt to have an open minded discussion about the ins and outs of the controversial, potentially exciting, and certainly intriguing world of NFT’s.

Even for those who don’t know much about them, maybe don’t know anything about them, the presence of NFT's has been unavoidable.  It seems to be something taking the art world (and beyond) by storm but what a divider of opinion! Some artists are going all in, other people think they are utter non-sense... with just about every possible opinion in between.

So...what are NFTs? Is it a fad or are they here to stay? How are they changing the art world? As creators, should we all be desperately scrabbling to get into the NFT market now? Are we missing out if we don’t?

Tom and Peter first lay down some important definitions before going on to discuss Tom’s own experience of selling NFT’s. In the second half, Peter quizzes Tom about some common concerns and, among other things, they discuss the big topics of value, subjectivity, longevity and sustainability.

This week's takeaway... It looks like NFTs could well be here to stay, and with the potential to be another string to the bow of a creative business, they are certainly worth keeping an eye on. However with so much that is unclear moving forward, and plenty of issues to iron out, maybe we don’t need to be too fearful of missing the train?

So whilst no definitive answer exists as to what you should do, ultimately NFTs are like any other business possibility – they may work well and feel right for some but not for others; and if you do decide at any point to take the NFT route there is huge potential to utilise them in a way that suits you and your business – it doesn’t have to be a one size fits all approach.
