Ask an Artist is the podcast devised by working artists Laura Boswell and Peter Keegan in 2019. Laura left the podcast at the end of Season 2 in 2021 and new co-host, Tom Shepherd, joined Peter for the start of Season 3, in March 2022.

The purpose of the show and this website is to share their knowledge and expertise of what it takes to become a working artist - the sort that gets to make art AND pay the bills at the same time. Covering a range of topics from social media to self-doubt or finding a gallery to finances, they discuss and dissect all the business related issues rarely discussed in the art world

Peter Keegan is a professional award winning artist living and working in Buckinghamshire, UK, specialising in painting. Trained at Cardiff School of Art and working in oils, Peter follows traditional techniques but uses them in a way to depict the people and scenes he meets in a modern and original style. Peter also teaches courses in painting and drawing at both his own studio and at numerous adult education venues across the UK, as well as visiting many art groups and societies across the UK to give talks and demonstrations. Peter regularly writes for art magazines, is an elected member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society, the Oxford Art Society, is a brand ambassador for Rosemary & Co brushes and Michael Harding oil paint and in 2020, Peter became the Artist in Residence at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre. Tom Shepherd started off his art career creating custom artwork on guitars using graffiti pens.  Making a move towards a brush and more traditional mediums opened up a whole new world to Tom, and he hasn’t looked back since. He started by painting in acrylics and oils but is now, almost exclusively, a watercolour painter. Whilst Tom loves painting a wide variety of subjects, especially if the light is doing something interesting, he is always drawn back to the place where his first two passions met; painting wildlife, in particular birds. Tom's work has become widely collected in the UK and more more recently, internationally.  He has been a highly commended finalist in the World renowned Wildlife Artist of the Year, on several occasions. Where possible he likes to combine his art work with conservation efforts close to his heart. As well as involvement with various group exhibitions geared towards raising funds for wildlife and conservation and to date has raised multiple thousands of pounds for these causes. Tom has also become a highly regarded, and much sought after tutor. As well as running his own workshops, he travels all over the UK teaching and demonstration for Art Groups & Societies.  He also leads painting holidays across the UK. www.tomshepherdart.com

Laura Boswell is a landscape printmaker working exclusively with linocut and traditional Japanese woodblock. She has a degree in Art History/Visual Art from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and has recently been elected to the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. She undertook two residencies to train in Japan, studying woodblock printmaking with master craftsmen, and her work often looks to Japan in its use of white space and minimal approach. Laura shares the Japanese appreciation of rigorous training; her work often displays impulsive line and brushwork, requiring meticulous cutting and printing to give the impression of fluid spontaneity. Laura will be attending a further Japanese residency in 2019. In addition to her printmaking, Laura teaches, writes a column for Artists and Illustrators Magazine and works on the occasional public art project. Her prints feature in national collections including the House of Lords and the Library of Wales. For further details about Laura and her work, please visit www.lauraboswell.co.uk
